All right we're just about ready to chuck the billy on the fire it is coffee time and it is also tying knots time so this is a little bit of a different video from what i usually do but i thought i would make the five six or seven knots that i use while i'm out here camping also we're gonna end the video off with my favorite five fishing.

Knots so stay tuned settle in this is gonna be an educational good video we're gonna run through knots that'll help you tie down a load we're going to run through knots where you can tie up a hammock we're going to run through knots which you can put tension on tying down loads on a trailer on a boat there are knots look these knots of the knots i.

Use every single day out here in the bush and without them i'd be stuffed i'll use the gas cooker well there you go so you cannot have a fire in the area that we are in right now so the ranger just came up to us and reckons what are you doing you can't have a fire here and.

I had i had no bloody idea there was a fire pit already here on the ground when we rocked up so whatever so bit we're gonna have to uh make a coffee on the gas cooker but that is not gonna stop us from doing this not video so quickly make a brew on the gas cooker coffee always tastes so much bloody better when it's on a fire but um look do it on the.

Gas cooker and then we'll get stuck into these knots because some of these knots could possibly one day save your life all right that is well and truly done get a little bit of this dog and gun instant goodness into our bodies ah well it was a little bit of a.

Struggle to make a coffee this morning but we got there in the end so this is what we're doing today three different types of rope we got a big coil of rope there three different types of rope three different materials of rope a smaller rope and then my main boating rope so these are the three ropes that i literally use.

Every single day when i'm out here living in the bush all right let's get stuck into the very first knot of the day it's something called a clove hitch it is one of the strongest easiest crossover knots so what we're going to do we're going to call this our working end of rope this is our tag end of ropes we've got a tag end and then this big.

Long length is going to be our working end of rope we're going to tie this off onto these little bars on the side of the tinny we're going to take our tag end of the line we're going to throw it over the object you are tying off onto you bring that tag end of the line over the working end so you swi swish this over there and then that tag end comes.

Through the loop that you've already made as you neaten up the knot it should look a little something like this that is what the clove hitch looks like now if you want to secure this knot one more time you just run that through you do a half hitch and that knot.

Is never coming undone the joy about this knot is is extremely easy to undo you can just flip that loosen that off and that knot is undone all right so that was the clove hitch an extremely useful crossover knot let's do it again a little bit slow motion just so you guys can see if you've never done this knot before.

So your tag end goes over the object you are tying onto tag end over the working line under through the loop and then you snug it up nice and tight that's it simple easy beautiful knot i.

Use this every single day when we're out here in the bush second knot and this is by far the most used knot when i'm using the tinny when we're out fishing is something called a bow line it is a very very bloody useful knot again i use it every single day so we're going to tie off onto this little tree here.

All right we are going to take the tag end of our rope we're going to go around this tree now this is by far the most important part of a bow line when you're making a you've got to make it this first loop so you're going to come up and over that loop there is the most important.

Loop so our working end is coming under the loop the loops on top the working ends going under if you do this this way like that now this working end is on top that will not work it's got to be up and over so you come up and over you grab your tag end through the hole.

Under this piece back through the hole once again you stitch that up nicely that is called a bow line it's an extremely common knot in boating camping so the good thing about this knot is it does not slip so i can push back i can push forward that knot does not move.

Whatsoever it's as strong as houses it'll never come undone but it's quite an easy knot to undo which is a good thing it's very simple knot all right so let's do that knot one more time around the tree the loop.

Coming on top at all times this is where they say the rabbit comes through the hole around the tree and then the rabbit goes back through the hole stitch it up that's it that is your bow line it's never coming undone remember that knot it is a knot we use.

Every single day when we're out on the boat and it's incredible okay so this next knot is a very important knot we use it all the time it is a joining knot so i have two separate pieces of rope here this is where we would use it sometimes if you need a clothesline in the bush and you've got a long distance between tree and tree.

You've got to join your two ropes together this is the knot that we use it's called a reef knot or a square knot very simple knot that goes left over right this one right over left and you'll see this it'll start to snug up like this so that is.

You can see the two different bits of rope there they're biting into each other it's got a reef knot or a square knot a very simple way of joining two bits of rope together and it's quite an easy knot to undo once it's been put under tension so let's do that again two tag ends left.

Over right right over left forming something like this as you pull that tight that starts to become the perfect reef knot okay so while we're on the subject of joining two completely different lines.

Together or ropes together we just did the reef knot now that's a super simple knot to do and it's a very easy knot to undo when it's been put under tension we're going to show you something called a double uni knot now this is another way of joining two lines together but it's a little bit more once this has tension on it it's extremely bloody hard.

Not to undo but it's a lot stronger than the reef knot so we're gonna bring one tag and a long the other the other piece of rope you've got you're going to make a loop in here so now you can see you've got this tag end running down here this is going to run around the loop that you've originally made.

Here so you're looking something like this now as you snug this up and pull this tight it's going to start looking something like this flies flies are extremely friendly out here so that is one side of the double.

Uni so that is called a uni knot now we're going to flip it and we're going to do that on this side so this rope will be able to pull through you're going to make your loop again now this tag end is going to go through this loop one two.

And three times you're gonna snug that one up also so here you have your two uni knots and then as you pull this together they're gonna really bite into each other so you can see there they're starting to bite into each other give those tag ends a little bit of a tighten.

So that there is your double uni knot now that is a knot once you start putting tension on that knot it is extremely hard to undo but it is an extremely strong knot for joining two different bits of rope together all right one more final joining knot for these two pieces of rope now this one is a super simple bloody knot it is.

Very effective for out here when you're camping doing what i'm doing right now two separate bits of rope one you just bust a loop in it like that a very simple loop your second bit of rope comes through your tag end goes through the loop you've made then it goes under.

And you're gonna have it's gonna form its own loop so you go through over the top under the bottom then that goes back through the loop that you've originally made then you start to snug that up this is called a sheet bend so once you have that it is that is how your sheet bend looks once.

You've done it again you've got two joined bits of rope and it is a very easy knot to undo once it's been under tension so you just you can literally it comes undone very easy but it's not a knot that will ever slip very simple let's do it again real quickly one loop this.

Through your loop around the back and then you've got a loop he comes back through his own loop snug them together boom that's called a sheep bend and a sheet bend very simple very quick not to do very effective around the camp site okay so this next knot that we're going.

To do is something called a taut line hitch now this as this is an incredible loop knot so it's a loop knot which you can use under tension but the loop knot actually can slide back and forth but the your working line can be under complete tension and it won't slip so this is an extremely good knot for tying up hammocks for trying to pull down a.

Load something like that where you want to use a loop knot so the tour line hitch this is exactly how you tie it you're going to take the tail end of your rope throw it around any object that you're tying off onto now this is the important part you take your tag end this is the tag end.

You're gonna lock it off with your finger two wraps around the inside of the loop you've made one and then two you dress that down to the bottom side looks like this this tag end goes under the knot.

Down to your main working line through the loop that you've already made for yourself here and then you'll dress it up that is called a tortelline hitch now the most incredible thing about this knot is this i can put a whole lot of tension on that knot and it will not slip.

But the good thing about it is once you take the tension off you can slide that loop big or you can make it really bloody big but once you put tension on that it ain't going nowhere anytime soon it's a really good knot.

For a lot of different purposes especially when you want to make a loop knot which is adjustable there's our adjustable knot awesome knot to use out here in the bush all right let's do this taut line hitch one more time run down to your shed grab a bit of rope let's do this together so we're going to throw the tail end.

Over some object that you want to be tying off you're going to bring the tail end around the loop that you've made you're going to come once and then twice around your working end of rope and then your tail comes back around goes through.

The loop that you're making for yourself there you're gonna pull him up tight that is the tort line hitch incredible knot that's how it looks from the top that's how it looks from the back tightline hitch you can put a whole lot of pressure on it but.

Again it is that beautiful adjustable loop knot very handy when you're out here all right so this next one has got to be up there with one of my favorite knots to do when i'm tying down a load on the boat a trailer tying swags onto the roof rack of the car something like that this knot is ideal it's called a trucker's.

Hitch so what we're going to do is we're just going to throw our rope over here this end clove hitch the first knot we did at the start of the video very simple an effective knot boom we've got our clove hitch on one end all right so this is our working end of line we're going to come under this bar.

Here let's say we're just going to tie down a heap of swags in the boat what we're going to do is you're going to form a loop in the line like that you're going to bring your working end back through the loop that i've just made there that's going to make us this now this little knot here or this little loop here should i say is like a.

Levering point so we're going to bring our main line back through that loop pull our line completely through now this is where this knot really gets interesting i can start pulling on this and you'll see how much tension i can actually put twice.

Onto this and have a look at this that is under complete tension that's a very very bloody tight line i can rip on it as tight as i want and it's going to keep under tension all you do now is this is our working ender rope we'll pinch it there usually easier when you have a bit of a smaller bit of rope but we'll pinch it.

There come up we're just gonna do give me yourself a little bit of play a half hitch here snug that half hitch up tight just like that that knot is over and done with if you want a little bit more security you can come back in you just do a double.

Huff a double hitch and that's it that knot is done and dusted look at that it's under complete tension very very good knot for tying anything down all right let's put some of these knots into a real world situation so let's say that we're out here in the bush we've just been mud crabbing we've got dirty.

Heavy muddy jeans long sleeve shirt weighs a ton shoes need hanging up we're going to make a clothesline so we've got a little bit of a different string here this is a beautiful string what we're going to do first is that first knot that we made the clove hitch so you come around the tree you come back around the tree you suck that up you dress it up.

Looking all nice and beautiful and boom there is our clove hitch now the biggest problem we have with this bit of rope is it's not long enough to go all the way down to that tree way down there in the distance so what we're going to do is we're going to use the sheet bend knot which we learnt so we find where these two beautiful.

Bits of rope meet up and we're going to make that sheet bend a loop in one end of the line this other bit of joining line comes through here around back through that loop they snug up nice like that sheet bend boom the sheet bend knot is generally.

For when you have different diameter ropes so let's say this was a four mil rope this was a 14 mil rope that's where that knot will come in perfect but because we're making a clothesline that is a beautiful knot for a clothesline all right down to the tree all right this is becoming the world's longest clothesline.

But it's for a reason so we're going to come around this tree and rip this tag end through now what we're going to do here we're going to make the trucker's hitch so that's that's the knot where we can put things under tension so we make a loop we come back through with that loop this is what we just.

Learned before in the tinny so now we have a levering point we're going to bring our tail end through that levering point now this is where the party starts we can get a lot of tension because that's such a long line it's going to have a lot of slack in it so we can really reef on this knot look at this.

That is a lot of tension right now on that line up there it's nearly dead straight and it's about 20 meters long so once we have this trucker's hitch tensioned up all we do again give yourself a little bit of slack you make a half hitch.

On the end just like this probably get a little bit too much juice here but it's all good then we're just going to go with another half hitch to lock it off boom you have a clothesline which is completely under complete tension right now it is very bloody tight now there's one more knot that i want to show you.

Guys it works as a bush peg but you can also split other lines off of this main line and it's a very cool little knot so let's go get that one done down there in the shade all right so the final little bush knot that will help you out here in the wilderness is something called i'm.

Pretty sure it's called a perfect knot i'm not 100 sure on the name but this is something that we do use quite often so all you need is a little bit of drawstring a shoelace fishing line anything will work for this it is a bloody handy little knot so all you need is do is have a loop in that knot what you're going to do you're going to come.

Through bring that thing over itself simple right yes but that's not the knot done yet we're going to open him back up come back through twice open it back up again come back through three times.

Now what you want to start seeing is this six little layers of rope all beautifully evenly together like that now this loop here you can hang anything off that loop pots pans shoes coat hangers whatever you want you've got a little hook the joy of this thing is while it's.

Sitting dormant like this it slides so i can slide this anywhere i want on the clothesline and it's gonna be it works for anything hanging pegs pots shoes pans anything but the joy of this knot is this as soon as you push this oh we've got the bloody army coming to tell us to put the fire out now excuse the.

Helicopter the army's on its way so as soon as you put this tag end on a 45 degree angle there ain't no more sliding look i'm pulling like buggery on that and it will not slide i'll also do it to the left you put it on a 45 degree angle that knot will not slide now that is the joy of this knot you leave it laying dormant.

It slides boom boom so if i wanted to now take a string are you serious mate all right the army passed over thank god they weren't coming to harass us about having a fire this morning so what we're going to do with this knot now you can pull it to the left you can pull it to the right it will not slip but the joys.

Of this knot are you can extend it with other pieces of rope so what we're going to do here is we're just going to do our simple little bow line if i can twist that properly rabbit comes through his hole around the tree he goes back through his hole boom we've got a bow line now what we can do is slide this knot as it lays dormant.

Let's slide it down to here okay so let's say at this point i want to shoot a line off from here to that tree to put a tarpon down as soon as i pull on that it's going to lock off so now we can come down okay so we are running off of that clothesline which has been tensioned up with the trucky hitch down that end.

Now we're coming off of that line at about a 25 degree angle we're going to come around this tree and now we're gonna use the knot which was the um taut hitch now this is exactly where it comes in handy so you're gonna come around one you're gonna come around the loop you made two you're gonna come back under and through.

You're going to lock it off now this is the loop knot which can extend or not extend so you can pull this tight now and look at this that is where the tort line the taunt hitch call it what you want it's just a bloody useful beautiful knot that is where that knot comes in handy so look i can make it loose a little floppy bit of.

Line bring this up we can tighten up this taut hitch tight as buggery and it does not slip so pretty much what we've got now is you can make a jungle of ropes you can tie yourself up in a survival situation a camping situation in the garden wherever you are you have eight or seven basic.

Knots that'll get you through the day-to-day life possibly save your life one day who knows but they are the eight knots that i use in the bush every single day and i mean look how effective this is we've just made a two kilometer long clothesline which in the real world would never use but we did for video purposes and um that's it that's the.

Eight knots we use every single day in the bush all right so knots they can make your life so much more easier when you're out here in the bush if you know how to tie them correctly so i hope that you guys have learned a little bit of something out of this video hopefully we don't see too many boats getting pushed off the.

Boat rams too many cooks out in the bush tying their swags up wrong now you've learned my eight favorite knots when i'm out here in the bush and possibly the last thing is tying your rope up at the end of the day so big long arm length as you come in a nice little twist of the wrist on each circulation so bring it in twist the.

Wrist bring it in twist the wrist and you're going to be left with a beautiful coil of rope with no twists no nothing to get stuck in the boat in the shed wherever you live you've got about a meter of rope left at the end you're just going to come around whip it around make your way down until.

You've got no nothing left on this tag end and then as you come into the end there give yourself a little gap push that tag end through boom same with this tag end on the other end of the rope because that's obviously going to come undone.

Just wrap him back around make yourself a loop anywhere in the rope push that through just like that you have a perfectly tied up piece of rope it's not going to get tangled you can hang it up in the shed you can put it in the bottom of the boat and it's ready for next time you're.
