Okay well that was the worst timing possible we got the call that the plane was coming we got everything ready we saw the plane the plane was like right there coming in hot and then this storm kicks up and the plane leaves we are soaked you can hear the thunder everything everything we have is put.

Away we have no shelter and the plane left the plane is gone because you couldn't fly in the storm so now what this is day nine morning of day nine hello how are you doing.

  yes  at around 4:00 I woke up and smelled some smoke part of the forest is burning right now you can really see it smokestacks this is unreal it's a good dream hole ramming speed ahead.

Oh man way less visibility here I can't say I'm not a little concerned from being on it what would you do what do you do if you're out here no life I know all flights are grounded  good morning six o'clock at around 4:00 I woke up and smelled some smoke I can.

Still smell it but not half as strong so I imagine part of the part of the forest is burning right now kind of see some of it residually in the air a lot of smoke or a lot of fog coming off I can't smell it's so strong anymore maybe it's just that I'm getting used to it I'll see it when Kyle gets up what he says but I don't think it's a big deal if we can.

See smoke we're supposed to call Harlan so we'll see a beautiful morning beautiful sunrise lovely day already a loon right there what yeah yeah it was way worse earlier I got up about 4:00 I could see smoke and smell it very strongly but it seems to not be as bad yeah exactly it's not raining ash.

Correct I can't tell if over by the Sun it's mist or smoke a couple of my morning maintenance routine thingies taking the align probiotic and also taking a digestive enzyme after breakfast and sometimes after supper keeping me going this morning's not so bad which is great my my water filter is slowing right down.

You know backwash these you just shake them but one one per trip one per like six seven day trip 8 day trip or whatever and then I get home and I'll rinse it right under the sink pretty hard with like a strong stream and clean up pretty good I can use these probably like one a half to one full season I probably have like five old ones at home.

Probably would have been a smarter idea smart idea to bring them back up I did bring by the pristine drops which is like Canada's version of aqua mera but I didn't bring them so I think next time will either bring the drops or just a secondary one of these they make this is a leader let me come in half the leader to just keep it in in my.

Literally just switched switch directions 180 blowing that way it's bringing all the smoke into us there's ash in the air and everything I can see it right now as I'm looking at my camera I have no experience with this Kyla is over in California so he's pretty familiar with it saying that that the smoke could be as far as a two-hour fire.

Could be as far as a two-hour drive away still which I'm sure we're not in any kind of situation but yeah it's all new to me smells of fire have you with the big fire was last year the campfire it was it was like downtown Sacramento looks like this and the campfire was like probably two hours away but it looked pretty similar to.

This we've had a show my car every single morning yeah I'm not used to it ringing Harlan hey it's Kyle and Joe what's up can we stop haha sorry about the forest fire we made I apologize not much what's what's the fire situation all right good news the fire is 50 miles north of us all as well.

So that's a load off my mind continue camping continue resting sitting here actually it's calming down out here maybe go for a paddle and fish pretty soon look at this it's just getting worse you're gonna glow on the on the lake it seems like it's like big dusk go high the Sun is in the sky still 3-4 hours of the Sun it's all from the.

Smoke okay we're getting smoked right out can barely see if rocks gonna have to call Harlan soon probably see what the deal is just small all right so we called Harlan on the satphone and the fire is about 20 miles thataway so he thinks that everything's gonna be.

Okay and it's gonna clear up by tomorrow or the next day but they're off as of now all the planes are grounded they can't fly so our flight out in two days might be delayed we're sitting here on this exposed point it's like 6 o'clock we got tons of light left and a short paddle with the wind switching directions is now in our favor we're.

Gonna make a short paddle over to Cyclops Lake there's one campsite on that Lake and it's gonna be secluded it's going to be sheltered from the wind of coin but wait a bit boys in here so you've already been sitting here for about four hours we can't fish in the smoke in the widow you guess we could but we're not going.

To so we're just gonna get out of here and head to Cyclops hope that campsites pretty good there and yeah reassess in the morning hopefully everything does calm down like you said and yeah no big deal either way but that's what we're gonna do we've got plenty of time we got to navigate our way through a little creek which might be fun and then yeah.

And we're not doing it in a sweltering heat either tomorrow so I think it's a good idea yeah I'm happy with this decision I feel like I feel exposed here like a sitting duck it's like I know I know that that the other Lake won't stop it but we have a little bit of control about where we're gonna be at least so I'm happy.

About this we had to park our boats and the other side is so windy and then completely change all that smoke towards us now with the wind   well I threw a wine in just as they're trolling down here to get to next Lake I got a big fish on a big fish I was like.

And possibly even farther if the flights can't make it well this is all the food I have left got one supper of chili which I could potentially squeeze into two if I have to I've got some bars I've got a couple of fruit snacks cliff and another cliff I've got.

Remnants of jerky I've got my open-air meal so that's two suppers I've got my scrambled eggs which is gonna be lunch for today I've got my Chia powdered with probiotics got a oatmeal for tomorrow morning or at a few almonds I've got another bar so this will all last me as long as we get out of here tomorrow on our specific.

Specified date that we're supposed to leave on and and also there's fish right we have a lot of opportunity to catch fish so you snake into a walleye today or whatever and that'll be lunch but yeah stretching it thin stretching it thin would have had enough if we're out here for sure but we shall see we'll find out today I.

Assume when we call him we're gonna get out and go to Haven lake right now again there's four loons up there my friend water highway something something something 500-meter pork hugs over into Hanson sour Haven it's pretty boggy really pretty here it is Haven I just got my canoe this is like we're gonna get.

Picked up on so we're just paddling down to a campsite to set up base camp we don't know what's going on but we need to we need to stay on this lake regardless so through it align hoping to get some lunch I think I got a little walleye here so that's good he's not that big not that big if you get a couple of these guys we'll have some.

Food for lunch I'm definitely keeping them because I don't want to I don't want to throw them back and then not have lunch happy that those scrambled eggs I need to save them just in case we're still here in a couple days who knows what the conditions are gonna be like it seems unfavourable for flying with all the smoke and speaking to.

There and they're stacked up in there so that's what the day is going to bring and then tomorrow we might get out tomorrow we might not it all depends so yeah more fish the better go grab a couple lake trout have those for shop or two everything is coming up lake trout you might remember this site from such.

Long-sleeve shirts and we're not roasted which is good so all in all it's a really good day back at this decent site we first stayed at like I said and yeah just enjoying the nature today is not a moving day at all and yesterday we barely moved to all right like not until night time when we held it in the wind it wasn't that hard wind all the time.

That's very true mm-hmm yesterday it was probably the hardest day of howling yeah I would say you know just combined paddle time eliminate the breaks and stuff at least two and a half hours and just straight paddling in the line yep well again other trips we have we're moving all day long you see me do that with Kyle Doug Sean move it all day long.

Doing stuff these past few days excuse me these past few days I've been pretty chill so last night was the grueling March but yeah we're all over that now all we have left to do is just a couple little Portage's into adventure and we don't have to burn we're not bringing our gear we're gonna set up here bring probably.

Okay Kyle did so that was the biggest one I've caught this trip out of the four that I've caught it landed all of them which is nice I'm gonna switch it up I had to cut my lure off because I've been using this already go just deep diving we wrap but he swallowed it pretty good I had to cut it to get him out of him he's fine I waited till he.

Swam away and everything everything's good but instead of tying but that back on I guess I already caught three on that I'll just switch out to my Len Thompson and we'll see how that goes this is number two silver and blue I'm still catching them all like pretty much in 100-yard span so they probably hold up I know they do school this farm and.

This is crazy fishing this is hot hot hot lake trout fishing yeah and yeah like I said I am glad I kept the one I did because they just keep getting in the boat well I think we're gonna get out of here we were losing visibility if five between the two of us in the boat and I don't yeah I don't want to keep losing visibility before we get to back.

To the camp it's four o'clock by the time I get back to the camp it's gonna be five easy 5:30 I'm already hungry for supper it'll be time to cook this guy up I don't think Kyle has one I don't think he kept any I threw all three of mine back oh sorry two of my three back and then excuse me I kept the one from the other night the second night this is my.

Second one keeping but yeah anyways this is fun this is like going to the grocery store world-class fishing slamming pikes and walleye all day for all that whole trip and then an hour and here and maybe hour and a half and we got five between the two of us so very cool very happy with that and I will be happy to not have to eat one of my dinners tonight or.

Have so what seven o'clock and I've returned to camp site number one pretty happy about this check this out whole whack load of trout steaks we got one to cut the fins off cut the dorsal fin off three four five but then check this out this is I was pretty pleased with myself if I do say so myself yeah this is the tail end of it.

Literally and I didn't want to cut any more steaks vertically like this off of it because it kind of is just getting small so I splayed it open I cut the backbone right out and you can literally click that over the fire ray mears style you cut it down the middle of how two filets this trout skin you can eat so very cool we're just Kyle built up to.

Fire a lot of meat man it's a lot of meat that was the smallest one we got to it I think I do them yeah I'm like there's no way the big ones are twice that size the right I didn't want to waste anything so yeah I'm glad we kept the small one these will go over very well I'm starving and again trying to conserve.

Food just in case we don't get out of here when we're supposed to so got a rocket fire going got some Bob and song some space on that and they'll be good I got my little grill right over those robinette grill I'll throw that piece on there pretty soon and feast are you clean your pants see anything wrong what's this is normal right.

More coals for the rest of it that's all right really slowing down out here taking our time doing things you know I mean past couple days in sitting around for hours then getting up and going paddling or whatever and it feels like we have been out here forever feel like this is like my day job or something now it's just reality I feel like this is my.

Life like it's it it's hard to put into words really like this tomorrow is gonna be our eighth day our supposed picault day our plan to pick out day and it feels like I've been here for days not in a bad way in a very good way it's like this seems like reality now but so Oh Kyle yes I have a proposition for you okay considering we both slayed fish yes.

Like I'm talking we both got very close to the amount of same fish we cut as much fish as wanted every day went in there bombed o-5 lake trout and like I'm out of an hour and a half yes I say in in in in good spirits and in taking away from this being a great trip that we Nix the challenge and okay.

And that we we share the chocolate we could do that it's melted into a puddle if you want to share a puddle of chocolate we could probably do that yeah just like you know just grab some beers when we get out of here yeah I think I think putting putting it into number I have a rough idea of numbers for a first few days but after that I lost track a.

Big time the first two days it was I think probably a dozen walleye they I released the first night I know as a dozen the second I mean yeah I I lost I stopped counting I didn't film half the fish yeah and I feel like I could have caught more if we if I wanted to cut more sometimes I'm just like okay I need to let go just sit down honestly I.

Was getting this like cramp in my shoulder from battling it was the same muscle being used yeah yeah I think in in in in the spirit of this place and just having a great time together that that the challenge is null and void yeah I I agree all right yeah cool good job buddy yeah you too man we we've done more.

Together now on this trip than we ever had before this forest fire slaying fish just this place you know I mean I've been here obviously before but I'm talking me in Kyle crazy sunsets yeah cool legs yep nice pictographs yeah good Portage's bug life very much so although there are black plays a boat right now.

Yeah so yeah man all-in-all fantastic trip I'm really happy we came thank you so much for coming yeah thank you for bringing this guy yeah it's uh it was a long time in the making we needed to get it to another canoe trip and I think what we said we're gonna do is try to not try to we're going to schedule a week at least one year where we get.

Together cuz that's probably all we're gonna be able to do now in all honesty you know we're so far away you're starting a family I've got a young family both have obligations and responsibilities and stuff so yeah every three months kind of life changes you know but yeah I think I'll definitely do at least once a year.

Yeah okay you need to do this I mean I need to do this I 100% that's exactly what I was saying coming into this I need to do this for me and for yeah it's cool to be here together you know we started a lot of these canoe tripping things together and yeah the progress is is awesome to see so we are farther along in both of our lives and you know.

I mean we started seven eight years ago or I don't know I don't even know what I did three days ago man Emeril and you met me when Emerald that was it yeah you're like eight years ago in eight years and we right away started going on trips together so yeah learned a lot we still don't know a lot obviously but it's all fun and it's all.

Learning and yeah I'm very happy to have been here and had this experience with you yeah cool and I'm glad you guys were able to watch if you did I know you've been asking for this type of thing and I've really been wanting willing to do it so here it is no your hand off that one no it's pro man getting all my in a nice restaurant right yeah see those.
