To someone's bra just hanging on a tree have a look at that it's actually stink oh you're kidding what's going on doggies welcome back to another video i am very very bloody excited about today's video all right.

We have a juicy watermelon right here so around about two months ago a month and a half ago a couple of people tagged me in a video and there's a lady in some sort of an asian country and she cooks a duck or a chicken inside a watermelon starts a fire puts the watermelon obviously cuts a hole in the.

Watermelon takes the insides out she cooks a duck or a chicken in that watermelon and um she never showed the cooking of the video but she showed the end product and it was a cooked duck inside their watermelon now ever since i've seen that it has blown my mind and i've been thinking the whole time like is it possible to actually penetrate.

Enough heat through the outside of a watermelon to cook something inside the watermelon and i've been thinking about it flat out so yesterday we went out fishing we got one of the most beautiful little honeycomb cod a couple of other fish so um we're down here today we're going to start a big fire put the watermelon on.

The fire and see if it's actually possible to cook fish inside a watermelon i'm not too sure if this is going to be actually a thing so without further ado let's start a big fire on the beach here empty this watermelon out and um hopefully hopefully we can cook some fish inside this.

Watermelon it's going to be very very interesting okay so we've already hit our first hiccup for the day i did not bring a lighter with me and this was not intentional at all but i actually forgot my lighter it's in my fishing bag at home so we are literally now going to have to.

Start a fire purely from the materials we find on this beach um i definitely i didn't actually plan to do this but this is where it comes in handy to have the knowledge of starting a fire with only materials on the beach so what we're gonna do we're gonna start the fire the easiest way probably is just to make a bow drill it's probably.

The most easy and effective way of starting a fire when you don't have any stop fire starter but what i'm doing right now here is um up in the bush just here there's a whole heap of coconut husks except these coconut husks are all wet you can see the color of that it's really dark.

They're all wet they're all pretty cooked so what i'm doing i'm just down here ripping all of these little fibrous parts off of the coconut and then obviously just going to let them sit in the sun it's going to get bloody hot today so let them all dry out you can see they're already changing color.

All right let's go finding materials for a bow drill very very easy way of starting a fire it's a very effective way of starting a fire and i don't think we've ever started a fire using a bow drew on this channel before purely because it's it's the it's pretty much the go-to way to start a fire if you don't have a.

Lighter like we have today so it's pretty much the easiest method but in my experience of starting fires this way if you have the right material if you can take the time and look for the right material it's going to make your job a hundred times easier so i'm going to try to show you guys what i use for a bow drill everyone's got a different way of.

Doing it and i don't think there is one certain way of doing it as long as you can start a fire at the end of the day it doesn't matter how you do it as long as you get that fire started so i'm just going to walk around here sift through all the rubbish all the bamboo and washed up wood on these beaches and um we'll see what we can come up with.

Usually on the side of a creek like this you'll get all of the string tangled up around these tangled up around these root systems so it shouldn't take too long to find a bit of string there's fishing line there's a bit of string there that's probably enough actually.

I'll keep that that's good look at this you don't have to go far that's actually probably even better that's beautiful there's no shortage of it either look at it i've had a little bit of time to walk around collect some other materials so.

The original rope that we found which is this one it's obviously we found that on the tree near the river so that's still a little bit damp so just found this rope a little bit finer a little bit longer maybe that'll work a bit better who knows upgraded our spindle this is a this took a long time to find actually.

Just it's hard to find a straight piece of wood but we found our straight piece of wood obviously we've got our bow this is what's called a bow drill because it's the shape of a bow and there's that bit of wood that we cut.

Before you can sort of just spin this for a little while with your hand trying to make a very very very smooth groove because if you have any little sharp knocks or knots on the edge of this wood it's gonna the friction isn't gonna be smooth so you can just do this.

Or even on a rock you can just round the edges off like this so it's a very very smooth beautiful beautiful end or you want two ends so we've i've made an end on there nice and smooth and end on here nice and smooth it's going to get this little bit of we'll try with the blue string first i.

Think it's going to be better because it's dry i've just cut a little notch out of each end of that so i don't actually tie knots in this when i do it three laps around the wood on the fourth wrap around lift up that tail end bring that rope around lift that tail.

End back down that'll lock it off then you just bring your string through like this down there that is pretty much how we're looking gonna drop this drop this little fella in there.

Like this now we're looking like a bow a little bit of tension it's actually i use quite a fair bit of tension when i do this it doesn't matter if that stick falls out because you're holding your finger there and you wrap this one around again three times.

That's it boom you've got your tension set already put the stick the right way you've got your tension already set and there we go that i'm going to start spinning beautifully like this look at that all right there's two more steps that we.

Need to make if you can find a fire like this take a little bit of this charcoal something that's been really really burnt you don't want to have wood you just want it to have that that is absolutely beautiful take a little bit of that that's more than enough there that's all we need that and there's one.

More little bit of nature that we need to find it's everywhere it's scattered all up along the coast here and this is it the final part of the puzzle you guys if you watch the channel you know what this is this is goat's foot this is the goat's foot flower.

You'll find this pretty much on any coastal region all in the top end of australia all the way along indonesia you get this flower number one it's an edible flower we always eat it while we're out fishing number two it is a very very good lubricant so buy a lubricant i'll show you what i.

Mean in a minute but we'll go collect a couple of these these leaves are also super sappy but what i found is that these leaves are super super like um if you rub them in your fingers like this for a second you'll get this slimy looking feeling stuff i don't know i don't know how to describe that but.

That's what it is that's what you want so we'll go collect a couple of these flowers there's no shortage of them and um we'll actually use that i'll show you what that's for it's a very very helpful little tip obviously you got your your fire starting bit of wood down the.

Bottom you spindle up the top you get any old bit of wood with another hole in it there that get off all the sand because this you want smooth sliding so that's going to be there that bit of wood's going to knock on top you're obviously going to have your bow.

Here but between this and this you're going to get friction that's where those flowers come in if you stick a handful of those flowers in there give that a quick mash around that is like a natural oil look at that very very slippery slimy so there is no friction here all the.

Friction is going to happen happening here and down here so look at that that is an absolute perfect little spindle now all right let's go i think this is pretty much dry enough to start charcoal what you're probably wondering why do you have the charcoal so i just crunch the charcoal up.

And i just sprinkle a little bit into your hole there you don't have to do this but last time i did this i started a fire this way and i used charcoal it took only a couple of minutes so sometimes this can take one minute sometimes it can literally take five minutes sometimes it just doesn't work so it's just literally a matter of.

Trial and error keep going don't stop once you start spinning don't stop that is that pretty much the key but get that ready there put a little bit of wood with our goat's foot in there not too much pressure all right and you just want to spin this like this.

Now you don't stop this and there you go see nothing always goes to plan so there's our first mistake for the day rope snapped it's all good we'll use that second piece we'll keep going and going and going but this is the reality of it this is what happens out here.

All right let's try that again we've got the new bit of string the original bit of string that we found it's super dry now let's go chuck our leaves in here all right here we go the moment of truth now we just do not stop.

Come on baby let's go ah it just went out no that was really close man look at this that there it actually burned a hole so we nearly had it.

But like i said you don't always get it first shot but there's definitely a burn mark there so it was hot enough only took about that took like two minutes man all right let's go again all right come on come on you good thing okay so you know how i said soft wood is.

Good wood well we've just completely burned a hole through the wood yeah little mangrove it's getting bloody hot i had the smoke and everything i should have stopped but i just kept going i should have stopped at that point you can see that you can see the.

Where it's starting to burn there but i just stopped for some stupid reason but it's not a problem we can just make another hole here keep going we'll just keep doing this process until we get a fire going i don't care if this takes me three hours.

We're getting it done and there's nothing nothing's ever easy out here in the bush anyway and i absolutely bloody love it all right let's go again i'm gonna round this hole out cut a v in it start the process all over again.

Come on big dog all right welcome to the reality of the bow drill i've been trying probably for i don't know half an hour 40 minutes probably had about four or five attempts and um look it's just not working and it's purely not working because of the.

Materials that i've got so what i'm trying what i'm kind of figuring out is this coconut husk it's perfect like little bits of string but it doesn't have the actual fibers that that hold a um hold an ember like this is obviously where we burnt it before you can see that black dot there.

So it sort of like burns but it doesn't stay burning so every time i'm running i'm spinning it's smoking and then as soon as i stop it just stops so i've just got a plastic bag this is what the fish was in that fish is probably going right on uh i got a little bit of ice on the fish so what i'm doing here.

I'm just knocking out all these little beautiful fibers out of this coconut husk i've got probably one or two more shots and i'm gonna try a different method maybe we'll try it with a light bulb or something but this should work we're generating a heap of heat it's smoking it just doesn't this just.

Doesn't hold an ember so i'll show you what i'm doing here yeah baby look at this stuff that's like gold in the bottom of that bag there see that that there's what will hold an ember we've got some gangsters on motorbikes we've rocked up behind me but.

I don't have time to stop this has got to work this time man come on baby stop moving come on here we go we've got a good action going on here come on yes it's starting.

Come on come on that's smoking is that smoke come on come on come on go go come on it's going come on.

Look at this oh man yes come on let's go straight to the fire quick quick quick ah [ __ ] oh no no no don't you dare go out yes go under there get under there.

Oh my god that was the biggest mission i've ever had to do in my life ever ever ever starting a fire with a bow drill man look at the time dude one o'clock i think i started at like.

Around 11. that's a joke but we got it going and that just goes to show that it's not always easy starting fires like that yes that took a bloody long time we did it doggies it took a while look at that.

Look at this thing this is so perfect man it is actually the best i don't even know what this is but it's going to work out so good look at that i'll tell you what this is for in a second paint all right so this weird contraption is.

Going to sit like this here pretty much two legs on a rock edge that'll sit there absolutely level and then that square that triangle i haven't measured it yet but the watermelon should sit on top of that and.

This is a steel frame so it's it's actually actually beautiful look at that mate and what i've done here is sometimes it's really windy right now you guys are not sure if you can hear it but it's pretty windy so what i've done is get a bit of bamboo big dog bamboo like.

This you can put it here this allows the wind to come in through the bamboo it enters the coals at the bottom of the fire so it keeps that fire going but the top of the fire doesn't get blown out by the wind you know what i mean so this is this is letting in a nice flow of air.

And if you can see the coal i'm not sure if you can see the coals but then fully like going like a little turbulence down there so it's actually working really good epic the time has finally come i'm so excited to see if this even works all right so the lady on the video what.

She had her her watermelon was about this big it like fit a whole entire duck inside the watermelon so this is a little bit of a smaller watermelon i've only got i've got fish fillets i don't even have a whole fish i had to go home and fill the fish so they're going to do some kind of like uh i don't know i've got coconut cream i've.

Got fish and i've got noodles so maybe we can do like i've got no idea right now but we're gonna get up we're gonna open this bad boy up and um i need to make a lid for it right so we need to make how am i gonna do this just needs a small lid why is it cracking.

Ready set here we go this is the lid of our little camp oven oh look at that oh this is good man that is bloody good i might be here for a while look at that but that is the best man.

Oh my god what an amazing way to cook so many pips inside this thing hey yeah all right we're pretty much done have a look at this it's fully hollowed out that is going to be our cooking pot.

We've got a lid the lid fits straight on top this is epic man look at that this is going to be really good and something that's even better not better but just as good as this yeah doggies nothing went to waste so that i'm just going to mush that up and that is going to be a beautiful.

Watermelon juice i can have while i'm cooking this food that's killer that is complete but look at that let's see if you can actually cook in a watermelon beautiful man all right this is the moment of truth.

So this is how this is going to work that fits there perfectly look at that man so that is all i do actually what i'm going to do wait we'll chuck some water in there i'm going to fill it up about what's that ah all right we'll use all.

The water we've got so now i've got no drinking water which means we're gonna have to go on a coconut hunting mission because it's bloody hot right now but that is pretty much it i'm gonna put the lid on let it sit there and um i've got no idea if this is gonna work.

Or not but this is what she did in the video and she cooked a duck or a chicken so let's see if it actually works i'm very very bloody interested and i hope i can cook because we've got some beautiful beautiful fish have a look at this man that's so sick.

As if dude show you guys inside the cook pot hopefully that boils very interested don't know i've got no idea if this is gonna work or not but that is the exact reason why i'm trying because ever since i saw that video i've wanted to try this so here we go we're on the roll.

It's um the time right now is 220 so let's see how long it takes for the water to boil or for the whole thing just to burn and collapse into the fire i don't know but i've got some beautiful fish to cook so hopefully hopefully we can get the water boiling inside that thing because on the video she boiled.

The water with a duckhill chicken so let's see if it's real and right there we've got banging coconuts so we're going to have watermelon juice and coconuts while we wait for that to boil we just got to get him down here you go let's try this.

Hello oh sorry bro huh you would not believe what just happened just then oh my god all right so i was obviously throwing launching sticks and whatever i could up.

With that coconut to get it down and then i hear this like rustling in the bush i'm like what even is that sound this dude just appears out of the pandanus palm and he's like i don't know he's speaking indonesian i was like holy [ __ ] sorry dude i didn't even know you were on the other side that bush.

I'm not sure if i hit him or anything but he's spec he speaks no english i think he can speak a little bit bahasa so we kind of i kind of communicated with him i didn't hit him but it was all good but jesus christ there's someone over there why would this you just come out of that bush there anyway i'm gonna go get a.

Stick get this coconut down they're not good coconuts they're really really old coconuts but they're the only coconuts in the area and i've got no water right now and it's stinking hot so i think we'll just use a stick because old mate's not going to get hit by a stick ah it's funny man.

Honeycomb cod is what that fish is called in indonesia they just call any sort of cod groper they just call it groper but the real name of that fish was a honeycomb cod beautiful size for a honeycomb cod and the most amazing flesh so what i reckon i'm going to do i'm just going to dump it straight in.

There but i need a stick all right that's ridiculously hot that is looking ridiculously good so what i'm gonna do i don't really know what i'm doing here but i'm just gonna chuck in massive fillets of fish i should probably cut them up no who cares let's go to light.

That's going to come in handy though just as i was about to take the food off i'm not sure if you guys can see that but it's starting to leak out the water's leaking out you're kidding it's actually cooked to perfection inside but the water's just started leaking out it's like a timer hey.

Just doesn't it just didn't make sense that you can actually cook inside of it but look at this man we have just cooked an absolutely amazing meal on the fire with a watermelon dude so i haven't really tried it properly i've been waiting for you guys here we go with our mac 10 chopsticks.
