Hi it's christmas man what's going on doggies it's christmas so merry bloody christmas i hope you are having an amazing day today spending time with your family eating all that good food having them cold beers i really really hope you guys.

Are having an amazing day so yesterday i took my girlfriend fishing and we we did pretty good we got a nice blue finch valley and we've got about six squids so that's what i'm going to be cooking up today big beautiful philadelphia valley and we've got two big squid well they're not big squid but we've got two squid to.

Cook up so to keep this a little bit interesting and in the true field day form we don't have any lighters matches or any way to start a fire today so what i want to do i want to be able to start a fire purely from the materials that we find on this massive dirty beach.

Right here well as you can see behind me there's absolutely no shortage of material on this beach there's two local guys fishing down there doing like full-on traditional fishing methods it's actually really interesting but um just looking at this beach right.

Now there is so much material to make a fire i don't know exactly how we're gonna do it yet but we'll put our brain to the put our brain to work in a minute but first of all we're gonna go move the bike because that's actually in our kitchen right now all right so this is kind of where i want to have my fire this is like a.

Little protected it's a little bit windy out there so this pandanus palm is protecting us from the wind and um oh man i'm excited for this christmas cook up dude fresh fresh fish fresh squid on the fire on christmas day and we're gonna get a coconut down off of a tree somewhere.

I'm excited this is gonna be fun man all right let's go this is the kitchen for the day so um let's see if we can start a fire purely from the materials on this beach it's never easy this doing this is never easy but there is a lot of material so hopefully.

What i'm thinking straight off the bat i'm just going to do like a bow drill maybe that's probably going to be the easiest but i would like to do something different than a bow drill because everyone does bow drills that's just like it's just like the thing you do i don't really want to make a bow drill so.

Put a scavengers rubbish and we'll see what we can do all right we've had about a four minute walk around about four minutes that's a pacific number been walking around for about five minutes and um i reckon i know how we're going to start this fire i'm.

I've never done this before on on the videos i've done this before when i was back in australia ah it works really well so let's go i'm gonna show you guys how we're gonna start a fly today you have got to be kidding me man to collect all of these lighters it took about.

Four minutes walking around the beach i only walked from here to there this little section here all of these lighters now none of these lighters actually work i've tried every single one of them and they're all busted up they've got look there's like shelves little organisms or shells growing on.

Them they've obviously been in the ocean for ages but what we can do we can start doing some lighter maintenance hey check this out man full-on christmas theme light is going on red green dive all right so what i'm going to do.

I'm just going to sit here and i'm going to pull every single one of these lighters apart we've got a couple of lighters to go through look at this man so bad that's floating around in our ocean yeah but anyway what i'm going to do i'm just going to pull all these lighters apart.

See if one of them has a working flint inside they're all pretty old and corroded like this wheel's absolutely corroded that's just stuff so i'm just going to sit here pull them all apart and hopefully we can get somewhere if not we're gonna try to make a bow drill but this is how i want to try to start a.

Fire now so see if we can get it done i am sweating bullets in this christmas hut right now but there is no way in the world i'm taking it off no way all right so about 20 minutes has passed probably even longer actually but we're making progress one of the.

Lighters has fluid in it this one has fluid in it as well a lot of them have fluid in them but it's actually not the fluid that we want we want the flint so what i've done i've taken the flint out of one of the lighters put it into this lighter because this.

Wheel is probably the best spinning wheel and we have success we have a sparking i don't know if you guys would be able to see it we have a sparking lighter so now it's the fun part what we're gonna do we'll go find a coconut husk probably coconut husk is going to be our.

Best bet to start a fire right now but it's got to be really really dry so um that's the thing now we're going to go find coconut house doggies because i need to cook this fish it's sitting in my bag right now and it's probably sweating its ass off in there so let's get a christmas fire going.

Whoa i tell you what mate there is endless and endless amounts of junk on this beach there's a banging coconut tree up there come fully loaded with coconuts there's another coconut tree here fully loaded with coconuts so we're not going to be going thirsty.

So much junk man this is like full-on christmas day treasure hunting it's sick the coconut down here on the ground this another coconut that could be that's an old coconut but we'll pick that up on the way back because that could be good and uh what we really need we need to.

Find dry coconut husk that's what i'm looking for but i am getting pretty thirsty so we might crack that one open soon success full now a little some of these are a little bit damp but i think we'll get it started hopefully we'll get it started let's get stuck into this thing i want.

To open this up have a drink and we'll start this fire up because i'm actually really excited to cook up some squid squid's my favorite thing to eat man so uh a bit of squid wrapped in banana leaves in the coals that's what i'm talking about but first.

Off let's see what this thing looks like inside should be a little bit in there come on you mongrel jesus this is a strong coconut but it's gonna be it's gonna be good there we go have a look at the size of that mama.

That's a beautiful coconut all right so this coconut here is an old coconut you can see how hard that shell is usually what you do you hold it this way you get the back of your blade of your knife and you just pop it and it'll crack beautifully around here but i was using.

So much bloody force i've already cracked it open here so we're gonna uh have a little bit of an issue here there we go there we go that's all i want to do little hole look at that that's water beautiful oh.

Oh i don't know about this coconut actually that's not good that doesn't smell good at all all right let's crack it over i'm not gonna drink that that smells crook yeah it's not good water does not smell good at all damn it.

Oh well you win some you lose some i was really hoping i'd get a drink out of that coconut but uh that wasn't good so let's get this fire started because i'm more ex i'm way more excited to start the fire and start cooking up this squid so let's make that our priority now.

I've just found this busted ass old light globe on the beach what we're gonna do we're gonna use this light globe it's not it's not like a glass one it's one of those led plastic light globes all right you should be able to pop these open usually there we go so that's what it looks like it's just.

An led light globe washed up but we need this little bulb that is you couldn't ask for anything better to be honest so we're going to dry that this has got to be bone dry all right so we've got that absolutely bone dryer we'll grab the lighter that we put the good flint in.

And we're going to start grinding we're going to start working that little wheel so you just grind that wheel but make sure it does not spark that you need the um the flint to be ground up but not spark so this takes forever i'll be here for ages doing this but it's probably the most.

Least physical way to start a fire so once this flint i'm probably going to try to use the whole flint and then once this flint runs out i've got two other lighters there that have a little bit of flint in them still so i'll just keep doing this putting that powder in the bottom of this bowl.

Okay i've used the whole entire flint out of that red lighter i don't know if you guys will actually see this but this is what it looks like this is what we've got so far can you see that powder in the bottom of that globe that stuff there is what we need but that's probably not enough.

So i'm just going to use these lighters down here we'll just keep going and going see as much get as much powder as we can it's pretty much like gunpowder here we go let's start a christmas fire on the beach from scratch so this is what we're gonna do.

This is the ripped up coconut husk it's nice and dry i've left it out in the sun for quite a while so it's actually quite crispy that's what you need if it's a little bit damp it probably would still work but not as good as i wanted to so i'm going to push down in the center.

Here but it's going to make a flat little bed like that so inside there you've got a flat bed in there i'm gonna pour this stuff that's inside there onto that flatbed then we're gonna take our lighter and we're gonna it's sparking actually quite a lot see if we can get that spark.

To ignite the shavings that are in here which are going to be on here as soon as that goes up bang start blobbing on it and hopefully hopefully hopefully hopefully we get a fire going because we've got some fresh squid we've got some fresh fish and i'm bloody excited about it so.

That's enough talking let's do this we got one shot doggies we've got one chance at this all right here goes nothing so that's how much we've got i'll probably i'll clean the bottom of this so you can have a look that's how much shavings we ended up getting it's quite a lot.

Really so we'll dump that in there there we go all right ready let's go one chance at this oh come on come on come on yeah we did it yeah we did it look at that we actually did it oh you are joking to me i didn't think.

That was going to work for a second look at this you are kidding rusty all right let's go that worked out really well i forgot something so important okay i'm gonna load this up and i'll be back in a second idiot man how dare me i took off my santa hat before.

Because i was getting roasted and i forgot to put the bloody thing back on that is not christmas spirit doggies but we've got the hat back on we've got the fire going i'm actually really happy how that started so we're just going to light him up now so good all right here we go we've got the.

Banana leaves let's start cooking this hella meal i'm so excited for this man doesn't come any bloody fresher than this fresh squid fought last night tentacles are my favorite part man this is the best part of the squid i don't eat that part that's the head.

But all this stuff this is good look at this now this is a christmas time on that bit big chunks fresh squid a little bit of olive oil some herbs and spices coconut oil don't want too much on there  wrap him that way wrap him that way.

All right this is going to be real good what i'm going to do we'll chuck this under the bottom and then the fish will cook the fish on top so it'll be like a that is proper hot so this is gonna go in there and then we'll close him back up oh that was hot.

All right so we're stepping it up because it's christmas i never ever use things like this but we've got like a grill thing so this is how we're gonna do the fish i think it's gonna taste absolutely delicious as well here are two beautiful little slabs of bluefin trevally.

Really nice white meat so i'm just going to cut these into little into little slabs oh yeah this could possibly be up there with one of the best things i've ever cooked man have a look at this oh we just lost a soldier that looks pretty bloody good but all.

Right we've got one more step oh that's gonna that's really good man i hope you guys are having an amazing day a really good christmas with your friends families probably drinking cold beers i would love a cold beer right now you're joking hey this is a magic santa hat see.
