What's up guys bless ya survival and today we're gonna be talking about urban navigation in an urban survival scenario or any situation urban any situation and there's a lot of factors to consider in this you know you're going to look at you need to be aware of a few things one is the blocking effect into is the funnel effect blocking is obviously.

Blockades and then also the funnel effect where you funneled into an area and a lot of cities are built like that and it will fund you into an area and you traffic stops you know bug out everybody's trying to get out of Dodge because the disaster then your block then you have to one-up ditching your vehicle and leave on foot with all your.

Supplies on your vehicle so you need to kind of know about city structures and then also that will help you kind of devise a game plan but one let's first talk about tools of the trade one is maps and every time I go to a new city I fly in I go to the rental car place and get a free map of the area and this has you know rental cars maps are up-to-date.

They print these things out on paper in a give them away and for their you know customers they want them to be very up-to-date so they're always update also tourist maps that you get like you know whenever you go into a town little tourist shop those are always up-to-date as well so those are two things that you want to look at another map and we'll.

Kind of cover this in a few minutes but it's called a spot map you can get these online and these show high traffic I'm sorry high crime areas in different cities and states so that way you can kind of steer clear of those bad boys another thing like I mentioned the urban survival kit video is a button compass that way you can kind of you know.

Navigate actually with the map or use your watch or if you have a GPS which is ideal and if you know signals still going on that would be ideal so GPS button compass and up-to-date map another thing about your map so if you do have a map like this and it's paper you don't want to be touching it you know with your fingers because it will.

Dirty up the spots maybe of where your head is so if you lose this some ice tracking you may find you the other thing you don't want to do is is mark the right you know routes on it because then people see and they're trying to track you or trying to take the same directions and one up causing you problems because.

Then they realize it sure prepared individual but that's maps and general you know equipment for that but let's go ahead and go over the actual city patterns alright guys let's go over the kind of city structures basically one you had the core which is the heart of the city and it's usually where you know all the high-rises and stuff like that.

Are and you have your you know main streets intersecting you also have your core perimeter which out lies the outside of the core and this has you know it's kind of large but it's not as large as the you know core of the city a lot of industrial type I'm sorry non industrial actual businesses and shops and and stuff like that outside of that.

Is your industrial area so you have your core core perimeter and then your industrial area that industrious large businesses and the reason why they do this because they're close to the metropolitan areas but they're also have you know aspects of transportation like railways highways see and stuff like that in airfields so they're on the.

Outskirts of the city now in an urban SWAT situation as one of the best places to because most industrial plants are environments buildings have a lot of resources tools equipment stuff like that and it's kind of like a lot of people go for the low hanging fruit they'll go for the big city stuff like that the markets the shopping centers.

Stuff like that go for the higher stuff there's not the local hang of stuff that's in the industrial area and also usually has a free path of traffic like taking railways or whatnot you know what I mean a lot of railroads out in the middle of nowhere and not a lot of people take them but it is a clear path to get the booking on foot but there is.

Also you know room for you know a lot of room for big equipment industrial area so you know you have potential for gasoline also fuel there's a lot of places have fuel outside of that is residential area suburbs you know stuff like that housing developments or outside of that and you know you really you're probably living there so it's not.

Like you want to go there other than just get shelter in place but if you have to get out of Dodge that's probably not so are you going to be but the streets patterns will be a little bit different in all these different areas and I'll go over that next ok got Street patterns the first Street pattern you have is a grid-like which is.

Obviously like a grid you know lines and then cross paths where we call them blocks in most places that is one type of Street that's usually in the course Center outside of that is linear linear patterns which is at shopping centers and stuff like that on the core perimeter so it's for ease of traffic for people maneuvering so you know once.

You get outside the city usually have you know certain type of small highways that you can travel on outside of that is a regular patterns and we usually what that is is subdivisions they do these type patterns because it looks better to the eye grid light patterns in a subdivision nothing really look good so these are regular shapes that people.

You know will like you know from better like a terms line of sight and cities will be limited that's why the importance of having a map and a compass so you know you want to have good cardinal directions because you're maneuvering through back alleys you're not going to know which way you're going and you can think you're going a certain.

Way but you know most time your since the direction is normally not good a good indicator you also want to think of social approaches in this world some of the spot maps you know look where the high crime areas aren't stay out of that area but also you want to set a gang neighborhoods you know that if you know gang neighborhoods are there you know.

These are areas that you come through in a social or civil unrest situation they're gonna you know use weapons and numbers to take what they want and you don't want to be the person that gets taken from do also do research on your area of operations so if you're going to you know Chicago or you're going to Atlanta.

You know do research do your spot Maps check out that check out the crime areas the traffic the grids you can get maps online you know go ahead and have set up and once you get there you fly in there you travel there stop and get you an up-to-date map so in case something bad does happen you can already have a contingency plan but you know this this.
