Come along on the 2nd installment of the Permanent winter camp build.
I have my dog, Tripper with me, we snowshoe in to camp to check on the tent.
I was away and we got about 2 feet of heavy snow, so I needed to check that the camp was ok.
I build the exterior wall, build a floor and cook bacon and eggs on the woodstove and share it with my dog

All right we're in a little bit of an emergency mode after I shot that video that first video in the series last week I left right away to go down to my old stomping ground to shoot a video down there and while I was gone like the day after I left we got dumped on for like three days.
Deep thick heavy snow I am concerned about the tent if it got if it collapsed and broke through again I'm gonna get raked across the coals in the comment section for not putting up that external wall yet so we got to go in this is like maybe five days after that first video it snowed for the first three days and I just got home yesterday so we're gonna.
Rush back in there first thing we're gonna do is build that wall we'll spend the whole day out here let's cross our fingers that we got to make sure that that tent did not get wrecked I'm sure it didn't but in case a dead man I gotta go see all right not too much stuff here today backpack little wooden platform and a big heavy-duty cast iron.
Pan that my wife so graciously oiled up for me so we'll get this all going grab my snowshoes just in case it's a nice gang out she's gonna get up to a positive 2 degrees Celsius I'm sure I still need my shoes though all right let's go big guy just my blood I'll check it out this is the difference between snowshoes and not.
What that height oh it's five maybe eight inches so we're definitely gonna wear the snowshoes today like I said lots of fresh powder sometimes I'll see comments like why are you wearing those snow shoes they don't even do anything but those are the people who have probably never used snow shoes believe me I don't want to use them I would much.
Prefer to not it's easier in every sense of the word what you doing digging your own Hut where's your toy no hey this is hard work it's like keep sticking in the snow because of how deep it is and that wooden platform think he's falling off I worked up a sweat it's pretty warm up I like zero to negative.
Two right now I mean positive two Celsius all right I'm carrying this thing we're almost there I gotta go back for the sled I could see the tent now does it look like it's any worse for wear oh thank god let's check it out I think that goes to show you before I left last time I banged that all off you.
Could see green boughs no not at all there's the tent looks pretty good looks real good actually you can tell that some build up on there but not the two feet of snow that we got and see the tents quite varied too actually huh this snow is very very thick and heavy just packing all on my snowshoes.
Okay not too shabby guys the back looks great up at the vents are all well nothing left to do but to open it up and see how she looks inside and then we'll bang off all the snow on the outside I'll have to go get the sled and then start building that external ceiling / wall you got bud little boy yeah boy 1.
Million toys I you sometimes forget to bring them have lots to bring lots to bring all right let's go inside what don't you boy you're doing some toys bro you're not the bottom it's uh big the zipper is zipper is buried the zipper is disappered oh yeah boy not too shabby guys whoa yes what a sight for sore eyes super dry in there.
It's all tied up Oh temperature I don't know man maybe four on there but unless that's just because there was no Sun in there I might be it okay oh yes don't be a barn smells like a barn in here cool okay so let's get the snow off the sides I'm not joking it let's just go see apartment in there that's crazy I don't hate it.
Don't hate the small okay that's something so on my technique team regardless that it wasn't that much on there there was still a lot of weight you could see it bowing in I might have to tighten up the sides but looking pretty good hey trip looking pretty a pretty good think there's a bunch of uses I can have for.
This small little pallet thing but I'll probably stop my firewood on top of it alright but I didn't have that wooden platform in this big old cast-iron skillet so just wore my backpack in not drag the slide check this out another little piece of something for the stove they're so little sturdy platform whole woman.
Tray action still not intrusive it's not in the way of the door or anything cool I like it I have warmed up considerably I don't know if I told you but I suppose he up to a positive 2 Celsius today so I'm gonna take the take off some layers and my chairs stuck in the ground there we go take off some layers try not to sweat too much I got bacon.
And eggs to cook up in a little bit but they said first priority is building that tripod and getting that whoo that Ridge pull up oh man she's toasty okay I'm sure I'll have to put that back on the second but I'm soaked just curious as to what it looks like in there cuz the top of it's all wet so see that's dry dry ashes that's awesome okay cool.
No need to worry about a fire just yet although I might make one before too long just to start the coals going so I can cook when I want to instead of having to build up the fire after I'm already hungry way let's go around we still have our snow shoes on and check out we got to find it trees for a tripod and a long tree for the ridgepole going.
Across use this whenever I can check out the hidden woodsman dot-com or the hidden woodsman on Instagram for all sorts of awesome heavy-duty bushcraft gear so the plan is build a tripod right here two poles a pullback they're very close to the edge of the tent been a long Ridge pull to the front.
Either going to a tree or building another tripod on the front although I would prefer not to build another tripod on the front because of the dog running around the less things that are up the less things that he has a chance of knocking over on the back it's a little bit less frequented so a little bit more congestion would be okay so we need a.
Tripod that's gonna go taller than it actually is because it has to go down through the snow a bit and we want the crotch of the tripod level or a bit Oh anything's were to higher than the top of the tent so if I'm standing it it needs to be able to foot taller than me maybe a foot and a half taller than me so it has some room to go into the.
Ground like that so let's look at like if I stand tall with my arm up I'll cut it off say we cut it off at my wrist and that's the size of the poles I need that's a good gauge so alright got our saw we'll get our axe and we'll go look me up for my sweater on and some gloves recently dad there's barely any leaves on it so it's not gonna survive anyway.
It's a decent size thickness we'll get this one down what's wrong trip you're gonna be all right you got a stop that's way too much there's way too much man bring here good boy out okay no no there you go silly guy okay so again we'll pound down the snow a little bit underneath it in order to.
Get as much length as possible it's not like last winter where there was like two or three feet underneath the snow it's only a coke maybe a foot or so all right using my agawa canyon boreal 21 I've been using this off for years love it I love how it works I love the ease besides all that nonsense Thanks.
Okay so even better I just caught up at the top where I thought it would be a little high but it's dead at the top it's actually dead there's nothing why about it so yeah that's a bit on the tall side I wonder if I could still use the other half of the tree if I didn't mess up too bad on it yeah I think I can actually Wow yeah definitely.
Okay so I'll cut this one to cut it right here and then we'll cut the other one shorter okay I marked it right here mark that and then we only need one more and then the cross ridge that's not too shabby I'll have to clean up all these twigs off them but that is how it goes so there's the mark right there no nice and easy.
Alright twice around we'll do some fraps I gotta cut this off actually so I can tuck it through better so fraps now are gonna go in between the wraps up and down blah just fall over slowly tighten it all up properly yeah see what I mean I'm sure okay we'll just finish it off tucking it under so let's find a stick here's one a.
Long stick and we can measure how many of them we need passed it a little bit for support there's one to almost the end of it with a little bit of overhang on this side if I want so that it stays secure we got to fix that tripod - we'll start it a little bit back just to be conservative and then if I'm going to the trees back there it's another one if.
I'm building a tripod I can probably talk the tripod back in those trees that's what I'll have to do I'll have to build another tripod and I need a stick a little bit longer than double the length of this okay well before that I know that this limb has to go because it's gonna be in the way so I just need one more log for my.
Tripod my big tripod and I come across this one right by tripper over here so this tree has snapped off and falling and then snowed on obviously been down for a hot minute it's the right diameter for what I'm looking for should be strong enough I have my measuring pole here what's up trip work alone but I have my measuring stick here so that's.
Even thick enough down there I could start there there it'll be totally fine we'll make some notches we'll clean it up and then we'll cut it there watch there get this measurement jaw be out of the way this guy right up easier to clean this up is it stationary here then to try to do it after it's just a log you know this good as a candle.
Rudimentary job weird I hit it over here right here okay see that from there try not to lose too much wood so chopping straight in there we go might be easier to get in there so weird chopping angle stance grip just isn't in a tight spot here that's working order right yes I'm try not to lose much wood on the.
Log part and I didn't okay a little stuff in the ground still mr. axe will help mr. Evans mm-hmm okay cool clean that up better over there not smart idea not a good thing to do okay okay they're a bit both hidden behind trees a little bit but that I put them up back up that tripods there that tripod is there so here's the moment of truth guys.
Careful Mike my camera tripper so I want to put the thinner end on this one they took her round back there where the sturdier part is oh I don't know what I'm doing I have no clue how I'm gonna do this I'll probably probably do exactly what I'm doing right now this'll probably be the it this might be it.
Okay okay okay okay I like it long enough Atari enough everything's looking up okay and I could use this as an outdoor spot like a little oh yeah okay it is kind of close to the top but I won't pull the yeah ideally it's higher but it is what it is okay gotta make sure this is all secure now.
Pretty stoked you see what I mean I could use this but I could cover this off a little lean-to over here that's not a bad idea for when you're out in the bush like on a real trip you don't even mean like an expedition type thing if you're set up for a while have your full shelter there how half lean-to or double sided lean-to here made of logs.
Or made of tarp a little drying rack out there a little you double the size of your tent to be honest okay okay now we're cooking I'm not really someone who sees think you can like imagine things before they're there like I have a hard time like I'm not like artistic or whatever I could have a hard time seeing things but once they're up there once.
Things are there I can see them okay cool cool cool cool cool cool beans with plenty long I can even push it back some I might do that this is long here and it's pretty bouncy so the farther I push it no no I could afford to take some off the end that might kill the wait a bit and push it up about a foot and cut the end off maybe.
That might help something just going to town what is it whose bird back yeah first off I really just have to make sure that this is all see yeah that slides back and everything I can make sure this is all sturdy I don't want this these logs coming down on the tent obviously okay I feel like getting rid of that a little bit of.
Extra might alleviate some of the stress on it because it is a lot of weight yeah how ways are good couple pounds at least right there by itself okay looks good we'll go do the same thing to the other side clean it up pounding the bottom because that looks sturdy now today leaning forward before yeah man this is.
I'm stoked this is cool I'm just gonna drape my tarp over top I don't believe that it needs any extra wood coming down this way as long as I tie out the tarp a little bit wide enough right so I'll have a slope off the tarp stay away from the tent that's the idea okay again ideally it'd be taller but it's not it'll still work though yeah and this.
Doesn't seem too obtrusive I don't think tripper will have too bad of a time staying away from it's kind of tucked back into the trees what I might do is clean up this tripod for I will clean up this tripod for the the wood stove and get that leg right over the way and that one because it's kind of impeding there's only a little bit of space in.
Between the two oh she's a big hole I sure I'm glad I brought one of those toys this time I need to do it every time but it's hard to remember too sometimes I'm starving okay let's see how easy this goes there we go haha it's funny when you know then you can tell it.
Hadn't even caught yet that's perfect okay so this is why I brought this piece of a little pallet or whatever it is I thought I could put this in the corner where that is and stack my wood on top of that then Center I'm gonna take that tarp out of here today and use it and then there's no reason for this bag to stay here and the.
Wood will look considerably better than the bag when I make my card I can move the wood yeah I got a level that out quite a bit everything's pretty damp in here probably surprised I guess I'll put this stuff in the fire right now what's up what's up check.
Are you doing bigger Tripper what's up near your happy boy wait well you don't big guy what's seems it you think something's going on out there this is gonna be my thumbnail I think that's one of those is gonna be like thumbnail right so you're doing silly go explore.
Go on go explore youdo be a no now obviously the tarp only needs to cover the tent portion of this whole thing I brought white because it's winter time and the tent is somewhat center line oh you know what see did you see that that's the problem hey tripper did you notice that you did that did you notice that you did come on dude come on.
Somebody in the last video comment says names and names his dog tripper then gets mad when he trips his camera first of all do you really trip a camera do you really trip a camera or do you not get camera over second of all it's a canoe trip er and third of all yes yes I don't want him to knock my camera over.
Regardless of his name and I would HIGHLY say I would say that a highly disagree with the term angry have you seen someone get angry me saying oh haha trapper he's not really angry you know ya know anyways did not name him trip me over tripper his name is canoe trip or Banzai the hyena Velociraptor sure game Border.
Collie on alright let's get this up there stabbed myself in the head I walked right into a pokey like I was talking about snow pipe hole this tarp down any further on this side and I'm gonna have to take it out in such a way that it stays far away from my stovepipe this might be a little bit more involved than.
I thought once again welcome to the life of Joe alright anyway what's up there oh yeah she's ready to go close that down even more I might I want to cut this bacon and half real quick cuz it it's easier to cook that way and then especially if I'm using if I'm cooking the eggs at the same time or hot the end of the bacon it'll be easier for me I.
Believe oh yeah oh yeah but it really didn't take that long that fire long at all to uh dig it up enough it gets his cast-iron really does the trick to is keeping the heat but I thought it would have taken longer to heat up see how it says I got a treat today a treat for cooking newtripper I got some tongs that will make hopefully make.
Cooking a bit easier I'm not use them yet right now see these guys and then they go from G SiO GSI Oh Doris GSI makes them super handy I can't remember who I was can't even look at them they make made made life easy beautiful gotta love cast-iron a wood stove man holy smokes love these little pot and put a bagel in.
The top bone is all right this open I never know like now is this dirty from that raw bacon you know I mean like I do this into the snow and then do this is that perfectly clean I think cuz I'm cooking it's gonna be fine I'll put this this bagel right on top I'm not too concerned about it just trying to be funny funny funny you never really work.
So you know okay so that's done I've got that we'll get that on then I'll show you the rest what I got so those that lose go back here not really all that much room but that's the hot spots back there anyway so good workout I'm gonna get the eggs on there these bagels will not take long back there I'm sure we got a little bit of butter I'm gonna throw.
In here - I know the bacon grease will help the eggs but a little bit of butter extra butter never hurt no one right I'm right yeah butter like this add three eggs one for trip to for me and I'll give them some of the Bacon's as well these are not from the farm I haven't been there in a while I'm gonna save.
Some of this butter put on my bagel but it's pulled off I should be able just there we go she's getting crispy I don't really want to burn getting crispy slacked on the pate pepper and salt that's enough I'm good yeah it's a good amount of butter so we don't throw snow in here man Trevor stop Oh one-handed you like Oh showing it you.
Like these might have to get so I brought these fancy flippers but I never brought a spatula everybody H Allah that might come back to bite me in the bum what could you possibly want I got to flip them cuz they're starting to want to stick oh this is a mess oh this is a mess.
Okay spatula and flippers next time or I could just carve one but I'm about to eat this like it is I'm so hungry eat this as is are these Bacon's off there I think oh I didn't let these overalls exactly how I wanted them to look oh yeah you're honest you don't care at all that's about anyone I'm more concerned with my bagel burning than the.
Eggs what's up dude what's up let's get these legs off rags or done more than done that's okay it looks good looks good to me scrape that all up two extra fat for Tripper okay so what am I gonna do make myself a little sand what do they think whoa super rod oh my goodness okay troopers got this he ate breakfast.
Before we came out there's no hunger no food needed for him this is all bonus right okay looks solid right you troopers got this alone just more than enough for the dog oh just gonna let oh and II got those scrapings over there it's probably licking the grease of the snow right now I was gonna let that sit for a little.
Bit so he doesn't burn himself on it oh my goodness oh my goodness let's take away this I'm gonna get some water on to make a tea to go with it but oh no no no let's go back in oh yeah not gonna handle that man Wow okay it's just probably cool enough ever you want this going out go like that oh boy this.
Is a good sandwich well did you guys like the last video I hope so I said at the beginning of this I went down to my old stomping grounds I actually went down for um for a special occasion to a special place to do a special thing and that video will come up soon but and what it was again special to me and um.
I'm sure you guys will feel the same I was glad to go do it I had plans to go to my other stomping grounds where that other fort was that would I call it the hut Mike and I used to go to and stuff I had the line I tore down I have plans to go back to that spot and do a winter camp there but then when I heard about the heavy snow that came.
Here oh also and I couldn't upload my video for my buddy's house which had to be uploaded yesterday because his internet was worse than mine so I went there and all that stuff happened so I just came home but anyways it's all right that's all right I got to see my friend and I went down to get my old stomping grounds I was happy to do it.
Well I have that video up in a couple weeks I have this video I have the Jim Barrett is coming your told me guys we're gonna camp together and that should be fun he hasn't been on my channel before anybody she up to alright well I'm gonna get this up such a fashion where hopefully it's protected.
From the wood stove or the event coming out the stove plate that's the name this quote-unquote paracord is just like foam inside it's not any kind of strands okay that we reached there I think I'm gonna only I don't want to go off center like okay anyway here's the middle line I think when we go one past this way so this will come down farther on this side.
And not so far on this side so hopefully that'll protect it but this is gonna I might have to put wood poles underneath it no because of the pitch or Ganesh dude or get a shorter tarp that doesn't come down as far that goes as long or almost as long but just like cuts off and then I can cut short and then I can put it.
Really tight we'll see I don't know this might be too big if it is careful man if it is too big it's no big deal the majority of the work is done I put up the ridgepole it's just getting tarp up there again I want to have done up this time you see that just not good okay so this is like the pitch that I want over.
Here but I can do that over there - and I think this tarp might be too wide this is certainly not what I need like this I tied it up there just to secure it so I could get the other side down but it'd be like me pegged to the ground I guess and I guess I'm gonna have to keep that other side flipped over or again like I keep saying get a different um tarp but.
If I peg it down to the ground oh you can't see from there send them a gun if I peg it to the ground right about there that'll definitely shed all the snow you know obviously do the seam to the back but then there's this stopping it so let's see come down and wrap it over out here maybe.
Obviously I'll have to set that in way better it's still super loose here I could tie that down maybe I don't like the looks of it very much looks sloppy newtripper but that does keep it far enough away from that stovepipe to be super handy actually and if I can just maybe that's not so bad that's not so bad I get that.
In there tight you can pull this out farther yeah so much farther get down there pull this tight and tie it off somewhere right here maybe off the new tripod or I drop it again that'd work no it'll be better if we got tied down then the snow would shed better nope nope okay.
Yeah like a glove someone sure a lot of people oh shoot eat but eat each buddy gene sorry alright get in here that is buried that's for sure man this dog sorry anyone how is it that Shepherd let me know in the comments comment I feel your pain aid your joy yeah you silly little frizzy if you can.
See he's just in a craze right now check it over last time I told you this is gonna temporary tripod even talked about it today a little bit where I leaned it up against the stovepipe was the I guess exactly where the paracord was and melted so there's a little orange piece of paracord blob on the on the stovepipe and these two are completely free so I.
Can get rid of these over there that kind of frees up some space the only thing is I wanted to move this one but this is what's holding it up this is stuck in the ground there hope and prop underneath there and then stuck on to the tree so I think we're gonna leave it anyways it's not that obtrusive and I think I can actually use it to hang this.
Tarp down a little bit better maybe put those over there for future use this is actually pretty secure you know it's not going anywhere so that a stovepipe is resting actually pretty good on it so we'll leave it all right right the way it is and hopefully don't mess it up too much when we do this okay so that's tighten enough tight enough.
Now that's tight because this coming down anywhere into here will be obtrusive with more ropes and stuff so I think I can possibly get this up here tight enough it might be okay okay it's all tied on pretty tight up there there's some spots I want to go around and tie off extra just to get a little bit more time on well you can see from.
The pitch she's gonna shed and you come on over here and that pitch is pretty good what I don't like like that pitch down there it's really tight what I don't like is over here what kind of goes up it's kind of saggy so I figure if I tie this out like that to the tree behind me give a lot of tightness to the pitch of the tarp this.
Dog is not gonna be able to run around this tent at all all right that's on there I'm actually gonna tie a stop not because I want it to stay that tight pretty good okay good again not what I had thought before I came out I thought you liked symmetrical but that's what it has to be and it'll work.
Then it's white I still have all this room out here where I can build onto something maybe make a little outdoor firepit if if that's not working out for me over there but pretty happy with it I could even come down with this be careful I could come in berea snow anchor here to have that out and we'll be a lot more taught or close to the.
They'll be closer down to the tarp to the tent like the other one side is what I like it I like it a lot it's gotta be careful a trip or a yeah be careful a tripper oh no oh no oh no no no no I was totally my fault but oh my goodness no no I was totally my fault but man no Trevor get out of here please for a minute.
okay I'm gonna build it up in the corner with wood I wanna build up the corner would just support the leg pull here is a shelf broke right away he fell right into there trying to get that tire how was my fault completely okay okay you gotta wait one minute buddy man it was super close to the wall.
Was super close to so you know there no trouble you stop man the wall came super close to the stove in here I came in and fixed it but yeah okay got a prop it up there's the corner that leg the white rubber on the other leg I got to put just crappy firewood anyway see ya that.
Piece this long if he's probably it's probably half of this almost half of this so between the two we should be able to get something going hey that's in there that's not coming down actually that's totally trumping get out of here dude stop it anyway that should hold it it's not going anywhere.
I don't know about this I guess it's not too close to the this stove this piece of wood pack snow on it I hope right anyway that's holding it up there that's not going down totally safe secure and now I've got this um this part of the tent farther away from the stove all right well let's see this guy's yeah that's what we'll call it.
Come on little outdoor x4 precise for this because it needs a sharpening certainly have the collection of sapling sized dicks over there so I'll be able to do something with those later on I'm sure they'll always need a sapling there's something open the woods okay oh I'm putting down spruce boughs and balsam fir vows as my floor I want to.
Put down the thicker ones first I believe so we're gonna gather these guys then end up with these ones over here still not gonna be enough but I'll be able to get a nice layer down oh yeah I forgot what the ones over there nice layer down and we'll keep adding on to it.
You want to sleep on the pan boa totally smooth on the closer better remember I want to put a cot back here so it really needs spruce boughs at the back of it oh man there's a lot of big sticks in here the whole floor is cover so we shall see see how many thousand okay putting the finishing touches on it I'm.
Gonna go click too close to the wood stove obviously it seems like a silly thing to do so still picking out big chunks olia barrier here perimeter sorts I had to take tripperz toy away from them for a little bit it's getting crazy with it throwing it out my camera and stuff again so that's the thing like you bring.
It out here for long he loves it super happy I did because it entertains him but he's also obsessed with it at the same time so anyway he's like a child right still a child lord knows I got enough of those going on okay boom done not too shabby feels pretty comfortable it's done because again I envisioned myself laying back there on a cot but.
Pretty nice that's not done that was just off of what I used today right like there's some scraps there but for the most part like I didn't go in search of boughs that's just the tops of like two trees what is the temperature I'll have such a rough time reading this thing I'd say that's at plus five to zero all right.
Plus 5 plus 10 so yeah right Plus 5 Celsius which equals 40 for the smell no more manure smell it's Christmas time in this city all right just clean up everything you know got everything over the tent so far get that green bag with me garbage is there I'm telling you guys I do really like this stuff way before I.
Ever got any kind of partnership with Malcolm or even new over anything like that using this gear it's bomb proof I would have had the same bag still I end up give it to buddy Clifford right at a boat show I think right outdoor show in Toronto but this is welcome replicated it for me and I.
Love this thing I'll never get rid of this thing all right that's all squirt away you can throw this right in the sled like good okay snowshoes do up the tent very cozy looks homely now you know I mean I got my spoof about floor you got my shovel my thermometer my seat my my table back there I really do enjoy.
I'll get a caught in there I think will make all the difference so thanks guys for watching this video I really do hope you enjoyed it we'll be back with new videos in this series and let's all cross our fingers about the restricting thing tripper you're gonna be okay buddy please go check out my merchandise at bunker branding a bunker.
Branding comments look under influencers under my name and there's a bunch of stuff some useful gear for camping some cool swag some clothes lots of cool stuff thank you for the support take care guys let's see how the next you got them everything good now yay okay.

One other sizable video! 👍
The bacon we now hang within the UK is skinny enough to read a e-book thru so once I sight the bacon Joe makes employ of I'm amazed at.
